Cloud Computing: Roles and responsibilities

If you are migrating from On-Premise to a cloud based solution, it is necessary to understand the different roles and responsibilities in cloud computing.

Cloud Service Provider (Vendor)

This is the entity that provides the cloud service. The cloud service provider owns and controls the cloud computing platform.

The services include

• IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service)
• PaaS (Platform as a Service)
• SaaS (Software as a Service)

The following diagram shows a subset of the different components within each service model along with who has responsibility for those components.

It is critical that people working on cloud initiatives understand what the responsibilities are within each service model.
